Lactanone is a high-dose lactase enzyme preparation that effectively splits lactose. A tablet contains 4500 FCCU lactase, sufficient for the degradation of approx. 15 grams of lactose.

Milk contains the carbohydrate lactose, which is usually digested in the small intestine through the enzyme lactase. If a lack of lactase is in the small intestine, this can not process the lactose and the lactose is fermented by bacteria in the colon. Bad digestion of lactose can occasionally cause stomach complaints such as bloating, abdominal pain and even diarrhea. The symptoms caused due to lactas shortage are called lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance is widespread. In Germany, 15-20% of the residents (about 12 million) are affected. The susceptibility to the occurrence of symptoms vary individually and depends on the recorded lactose amount in the daily meals.
