Folic acid deficiency due to lack of deficiency or malnutrition, chronic alcoholism or gastrointestinal diseases with impaired recording (absorption) of folic acid. Folic acid deficiency as a result of therapy with certain medicaments (folic acid antagonists, e.g. Trimethoprim, methotrexate; Antiepileptika, e.g. Barbiturates, Phenytoin, Primidon) and due to long-term application of "Pill" (hormonal contraceptives).
